17/7 - 5/8: Dinan Holiday
Thur 19/7/2007 - Our first day on the beach
We have spent 2 1/2 weeks in Dinan in North-West France where my grandparents have a holiday house. This was my first trip to France. I've enjoyed myself a lot although the first 7 days or so had pretty miserable weather. We found indoor activities to keep us amused though, and we kept going to some pretty great restaurants, particularly according to mummy who could just live on the Brittany "diet" forever....galettes (dark pancakes made from a local flour) filled with cheese, ham, mushrooms, egg....you name it, crepes (sweet pancakes), lots of different types of ice cream, special butter pastry bread with chocolate pieces in it, butter croissants, local pizzas...etc etc. But perhaps not all that healthy....? Never mind.
We went to St Malo, a neighbouring city by the North coast twice. Second time there mummy took me on my first ever carousel ride which I loved. It was one of those classic good-looking old-fashioned ones b.t.w. We have also been to one of the other neighbouring cities, Dinard, a few times, to see the local market where Abi and I got ourselves some fancy Brittany stripy jumpers. We also went there with grandma and grandpa one evening to look at the amazing tide which covered the whole beach.
The weather started approving the second half of the holiday and so we went to a fantastic beach called Sables d'Or, 1 hr drive from Dinan 4-5 times. There we met a nice German family with 2 daughters. One of them was my age and we built (well, tried to) build "sandcakes" together. But it wasn't exactly the Mediterranean - so swimming in the sea was a challenge! Daddy also bought a large tent for Abi to stay in since she should stay away from the sun at her age. She enjoyed her tent v. much and loved just observing the beach, the water and all the people, giggling away in there.
See all the photos in my Dinan album.
